There are many stories and songs from the hills in Greenup County, Kentucky, especially when you get around the part called Argillite. That is where a songwriter and singer named Roger Smith calls home. Roger has performed for crowds all over eastern Kentucky at folk festivals, concerts, coffee houses and stages with great class and charm. His real-life, clever, heartfelt, style of life in lyrics has always been one of the special touches he adds to his shows, along with a high level of professionalism. Roger has written many songs that have gained local notoriety, and awards throughout his life in song. John Whitley, Tony Maynard, Billy Ray Cyrus and others are among the artists that have cut his tunes. Waltz of the Goldenrod, a collaboration with his father, Claude, brought a poem to life in song, and won an award for lyrics in American Songwriter Magazine. This song was later released on a collection of area works and was noted as one of the best songs in 2000. It still receives local airplay today on several Homegrown Talent Showcases. Roger also has other songs that receive airplay, and he can be seen performing at upper shelf gigs around the area. His new CD titled, My Life In Song, contains 13 originals, recorded at DiscLab.
